"Taking Yourself to the Next Level"

The Monthly Newsletter from Don Sardella, Business Development Coach for Financial Advisors – April 2008

To all our highly valued clients and acquaintances:

Your Happiness is Serious Business

Many times, when we are having exploratory conversations for new projects, we are asked what we do and how we work. My first response is that I first want to understand what constitutes for you a great life, a life well-lived and a life fulfilled, especially for you and your family/loved ones. Then we get into the particulars of how your business is currently structured and set up to serve and enrich your larger life vision.

This ultimately boils down to a question of having clearly defined values and priorities by which we sincerely make our best efforts to live. Probably most of have done exercises where we identify what would we do if we knew we only had 6 months left to live. What would we do? With whom? About what? As the expression goes, nobody on their death bed ever thought they needed to get a little more time back at the office or on the golf course or whatever. When it is all said and done, it’s our relationships, how our character grew and what we gave to others that lives on in the end, as well as makes for a much more fulfilling life.

Maybe you are familiar with this Zen idea that we live each day as if it were our last and also as if we were to live to 100. A challenging balance to strive for, yes?

Paul J. Meyer, an inspired and inspiring role model for me for many, many years, always talked about putting spiritual values first, family next and then business. What gave that message teeth for me is that when he said it, he oversaw 44-45 families businesses with his five children and was actively involved with 13-16 charities, such as the Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement, Baylor University, among others. Giving away over 50% of his income every month from his multi-millions in monthly revenues, he still declared in his public speeches that his monthly family re-unions with all his children and grandchildren was his most important monthly activity. (from Becoming a Total Person) His continuing example, even into retirement, has certainly motivated me for years, to learn and create a version of this.

(For more about Paul J. Meyer, you can google his name or visit www.pauljmeyer.com)

I’ve heard people who were extremely successful financially and put their business growth and travels ahead of their families, with the flawed rationalized idea that this would be the best thing that they could do for their families. Unfortunately, too many times, spending that extra time at the office or on the road turned out to be too big of a price to pay, costing them their family and estranging the relationships that they thought felt their love and that they were working so hard to serve.

Recent stories have both spooked me and made this too much of a wake up call not to say something about it. Your Happiness is Serious Business. No kidding.

If you’d like 2 brief workbooks that we have designed to create a happier, healthier and lasting balance, just e mail me at don@coachingforfinancialadvisors.com.

On another note, I want to avail everyone of a recent conference call about “The Speed of Trust” (good for the next 21 days) In a world and a business where everything rises and falls as a function of the levels of trust in our relationships, I thought you might appreciate the opportunity to hear Stephen M.R. Covey, a successful person/businessman in his own right and oldest son of famed author/speaker Dr. Stephen R. Covey (7 Habits of Highly Effective “Everything”). Enjoy.

As of April 28th, 2008 Speed of Trust Conference Call free replay available for 21 days.

I encourage you to spread the good word.

Thank you for your interest in Stephen M. R. Covey’s conference call held on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 10:00 a.m. PDT/1:00 p.m. EDT.  I understand you were either not able to make the call or were interested in listening to a replay.  I am happy to announce that CoveyLink has been able to make a recording available to you for the next 30 days.  You can access this at www.coveylink.com/replay.  Again, this site will only be available for a limited time, so access the link at your earliest convenience.

I hope you enjoy the call!

Warm wishes,
