To all our highly valued clients and acquaintances:

The Angst and Opportunities of Turnarounds – A Leadership Challenge

In recent months, many people seem to be talking about turnarounds. I hear questions like:

'How I can turnaround my business and get off this hamster wheel of crisis-management?'

'What do you think I need to do help turnaround my organization? Where on earth do I start?'

Or even statements like:

'If we don’t turn this situation around, we may stop being around, permanently.'

'I feel like, instead of turning this situation around, we are just going round and round.'

I think you get my drift. Could apply to any of us, at any time, in any relationship, yes?

So let me see if I can offer you some helpful ideas on these challenges. First of all, consider:

        • That you may need to quickly size up and completely re-assess the situation

        • Discern the real problem sources – isolate and clearly identify their root causes

        • Prioritize the work to be done and get a workable must-do list in play ASAP

        • Resolve the most pressing problems or important crises as soon as possible

        • Lay the groundwork for a sustainably productive and profitable business/organization

While more could be said, key points to which we recommend you respond in writing include:

        • How can you approach your turnaround as an interesting opportunity for a breakthrough?

        • What are the possibilities and opportunities for your enterprise? Your Purpose and Goals?

        • What is your Turnaround Plan? Your biggest and most pressing challenges? Solutions?

        • How can you increase cash flow and/or decrease expenses drastically in the next 90 days?

        • The immutable and necessary resources required to successfully implement your plan?

        • What can you do to double your sales efforts? Build morale/focus? Create cash reserves?

        • What systems can you put in place for your team/business to have sustainable results?

        • What will you learn from this? Best practices to keep? Mistakes never to be made again?

        • How will you feel once you have indisputably and substantially turned your biz around?

        • What results will you successfully achieve from your turnaround? How will you know?

Let’s be real here. Being on the brink of possibly capsizing before right sizing can be an awfully scary thought, especially if you are heavily invested and really care about what you are doing.

On the other hand, with a fresh, no-nonsense approach to your business/organization, this can also be a time to find/develop a previously unprecedented level of resourcefulness and initiative.

What you can now learn, practice and master from successful businesses like yours? Many times, I have found others who went through equal or even far worse situations than I, who developed a clear, compelling, committed turnaround plan and persistently pursued it to get to their key goal.

That can always serve as a source of encouragement and creatively effective ideas to draw from.

Whether it is your own life, your most important relationships, your business or your favorite charitable organization, we encourage you to pick one and write out plans for a breakthrough.

We appreciate our relationship and we thank you for keeping us engaged and allowing us to do our best to be of service – til the next time we speak, meet or connect, we are…

Always looking to serve you with productive and revenue generating ideas.

Enthusiastically yours,

Best – Coach Don
