| To all our highly valued clients and acquaintances:
A Fresh Commitment to Mastery and New Beginnings
What does it take to be brilliant with basics and fantastic on fundamentals? Is this a worthy payoff, in terms of an increased sense freedom, being fully self-expressed and the financial resources to serve and support all that is important for us and those we love?
From the book, “Mastery – The Keys to Success and Long-Term Fulfillment” by George Leonard:
On page 97, we read about The Edge -
“Almost without exception, those we know as masters are dedicated to the fundamentals of their calling. They are zealots of practice, connoisseurs of the small, incremental step. At the same time – and here’s the paradox – these people, these masters, are precisely the ones who are likely to challenge previous limits, to take risks for the sake of higher performance, and even to become obsessive at times in that pursuit. Clearly, for them the key is not either/or, it’s both/and.”
In light of going for Mastery, a suggested written exercise as we approach mid-year? Given what we set out to do in 2007, how we doing so far? In its most simplified form:
- What has worked well and has been accomplished?
- Knowing what we now know, what will we do differently going forward?
- How can we make our work the most interesting, engaging and satisfying for us?
- How will we kick-off the 3rd Quarter, to set the pace for the balance of 2007?
Consistent with your values and goals, who are the top 20 most meaningful and influential relationships that you can meet with or hang out with in the next 90 days, that will serve as the greatest catalyst for your professional growth? What will you read or listen to? With whom will you train for best practices? For whom could you be that?
Let’s say this is all in the spirit of staying freshly inspired, challenged, focused, grateful, moving, celebratory and grounded. To get and make the most of yourself, what can and will you do? Are you out for your best ever? A pull-out-all-the-stops banner year?
May I suggest that the first full week of July be a time for mid-year renewal? Given that the 4th is on a Wednesday this year, it's a great time to be completely out of the office or on a low-flame schedule. Great time to reflect, read, exercise, rest, volunteer, revitalize.
Many of you have already told me that you are taking a long, 5 day weekend on either side of the holiday or even the whole week for personal and family time. Many of your clients may be doing the same, so it is a great time to be barely missed. Set up your back up coverage so you can be free to do so. (We are also planning to follow your lead. J)
A quick newsflash - as of July 1st, we will now be headquartered and working out of Northern California.
