As we quickly move into May and the finish of the first half of 2007, many managers and advisors with whom I speak are increasing their focus on highly productive, clean business growth that will sustain.
Many years ago, I once heard famed motivational speaker, Tony Robbins say, "if you can't, then you must"
In more recent years, I learned from author/speaker Cheryl Richardson ( www.cherylrichardson.com ) to employ the habitual idea of employing "My Absolute Yes List", which I now call "My Absolute Must List"
I have found, along with clients, that this monthly practice helps to isolate our most important breakthrough priorities and to more effectively harness our best creative energies to fully execute and implement ideas.
Simply stated by Cheryl, it is this:
Take Action! Create an Absolute Yes List
A new set of priorities that will inspire you to use your gift of time differently. This list will become the governing document that will guide you to make wise choices about how you live and what you do.

Does this list excite you?? Will it inspire you to shift your focus and give more of your attention to these areas??
Let your Absolute Yes list remind you of what’s important – what you really want. When you know what you want, your focus become crystal clear – you’re able to honor your priorities in any situation.
My basic recommendations in terms of utilizing this easy and effective tool?
#1) have no more than 5 key priorities on your list at any one time
#2) identify those action items that will help you amaze yourself as you get past inertia or previous obstacles - especially concentrate your focus on your most important objectives that will energize and inspire you as you push forward with systems and results that will have a long-lasting residual benefit
#3) do it as a monthly practice, to establish a theme and focus to your planning & execution efforts. Put yourself in a position to celebrate daily progress.
#4) type them up and print out several copies that can be taped to index cards and posted in key locations - PC, frig, car dashboard, bathroom mirror, etc.
One time, an advisor asked me, "What do you fundamentally do?" What came out was that "We help clients establish and maintain their focus"
This easy to use tool serves that purpose in a world where we all experience increasingly pressing demands and distractions. It leaves you with net-net results that you can be proud of and that you want to make sure you successfully address. No matter what else happens, you have clarity to keep coming back to, about your most important priorities and like a plane on a flight path that keeps course correcting, regardless of headwinds, sudden storms, etc.
In 3 weeks, it will be Memorial Day Weekend - June often goes by in a flash - then it's midyear. That's not a lot of time. What do you need to do by then?
May we suggest that you freshly hit your re-set button, sharpen your focus and re-determine what you want for 2007? Now is the time to create your momentum as we head into the summer months and finish the year off in the fall.
Good luck establishing high-intensity, monthly focus. Think how good you'll feel as you hit your marks. And celebrate your heart out.
